Kerry Manera
Pronouns: she/her
Psychologist
Dr Kerry Manera began her psychology studies in Perth before moving to the UK, where she worked in the homelessness sector for 10 years before completing a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. She returned to Perth in 2020 and is a registered psychologist with AHPRA in Australia and also in the UK.
Since 2012, she has provided psychological services to individuals, couples and groups in a range of settings. These include National Health Service (NHS) GP surgeries, hospitals, and specialist health services, as well as non-government organisations and private practice. Before returning to Australia, Dr Manera worked at a large UK Gender Identity Clinic conducting assessments, individual and group therapy, and research.
In therapy, Dr Manera works integratively and collaboratively with clients. Her approach is based on a number of models, depending on which she and her client feel best fits their issue and world view. These may include Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioural (including Trauma-Informed, Compassion-Focused, Mindfulness-Based, Cognitive-Analytic and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Interpersonal, Motivational Interviewing and Existential modalities. She also offers coaching.
She spends time getting to know her client before agreeing how to help tackle their problem in a way that works best for them. This may be exploring something that does not make sense, helping them make an important decision, or working in a more structured way to reduce symptoms or emotional pain. She understands that life can often get in the way of feeling able to make lasting change, and that it is important to understand these blocks to move them and move forward. Dr Manera is passionate about supporting people to live an authentic life and honouring their identity, in whatever way it is expressed. She believes that every person has the right to be themselves without fear.
