Chris Harris

Psychologist

In a world full of uncertainties, people are facing extraordinary pressure and many feel they are not in control of their lives. But I believe there is cause for optimism and hope; We are each hard wired with a strength based default mechanism. Our emotions (worry, sadness, hurt etc) are a psychological early warning system signalling somethings not quite right in our life. By recognising these signs early and making adjustments to regulate emotions, shifting to a more balanced perception, making behavioural or social changes then a return to optimal being occurs.

Chris is a Registered Psychologist (Psychology Board of Australia) with 25 years’ experience. Chris has been a founding member of a number of services in Western Australia including the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children Eating Disorder team (1996), the Saint John of God Healthcare Raphael Centre, Subiaco (2003), and the Healthy Mind Menu Project (Inc.). Chris recently returned to WA following an appointment as the inaugural Mental Health Advisor to HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince’s Trust to develop a United Kingdom wide Mental Health Strategy.

Chris is also the General Manager of Community Engagement at Youth Focus, a Not-for-Profit  youth suicide prevention and early intervention service based in Western Australia.

Chris’s areas of specialty have included eating disorders, peri natal mental health, youth suicide and deliberate self-harm. Chris now focuses on providing evidence informed therapies for young people aged 18 – 30 years and for males of all ages with anxiety, depression or related mental ill-health concerns.
